What is EPS Foam?

EPS stands for Expanded Polystyrene, and a soft, moldable form of plastic. While many people may refer to it as styrofoam, EPS is the technical term. It has many characteristics that make it the ideal material in which to ship temperature sensitive products. For starters, EPS has a very low measure of thermal conductivity. This means it is a great insulator, and makes for a very effective cooler or insulated shipping container. When heated in the manufacturing process, it is very easy to shape and mold. This makes it possible to create a wide variety of custom molded coolers and panel-lined shippers made specifically for a given product. EPS is also durable and extremely light-weight, which can go a long way in reducing shipping costs. Over the years, EPS has become an overwhelming favorite among consumers and businesses with a need to ship temperature sensitive products. We expect expanded polystyrene to continue to grow as a staple in cold chain logistics.
